Bedroom 2

With the living room now habitable I have turned my attention to the remaining two bedrooms.  Michele has her friend coming to stay on Friday which at the moment she has no where to sleep (bar the couch).

So over the weekend I emptied the 2nd bedroom, trying not to put any junk back into the living room and bedroom.  Thus leaving the hall an obstacle course.

Once empted I started to use what was left of the paint to paint the ceiling and the walls.  Finished this late last night and then started to lay the underlay for the click flooring.

My Dad is again round there today and said he will finish the flooring in this room.  This will allow us to make a bed up clearing some more junk out of the hallway and put a cupboard in there as well.

This in a few months will eventually be turned into a room for study / computer.

Next problem is trying to get doors for the rooms fitted!

Moved In!

I took 3 days off work with the intention of finishing off the floor in the living room.  One of them days I was off to see Muse so I had my work cut out.

Day 1 I went to richer sounds and maplins for some speaker cable and coax.  I then got ready to go under the floorboards.  Once under I came across all sorts of things under there, most notable being a bike frame and the wheels, very odd.

While under there my light broke which left me in pitch black and struggling to get back up to change the bulb, not very comfortable under there.

Finally got the speaker cable and areil cable run, also ran some cat5e just to be safe!

Now that this was finished the rest of the day was to concentrate on finishing off the floor in the living room.  As my dad was helping as he was off work we flew through this and got the floor finished along with the bedding.

I stayed overnight as I wanted to get a good start before I went to see Muse.

Day 2 removed the sofa from bedroom 1 and got this setup in the morning, never knew how much hard work setting up a sofa was.  Slinked off once this was setup.

Day 3 I transported my TV, some clothes and other odds and ends, Setup TV and settled down to some TV on Friday night.

That's us moved in and can concentrate on the rest of the house, much easier now we can just get on with it while there.

Yesterday it was the return of Muse, having not seen them since about 2002 at the barrowlands they have few more albums under their belts was looking forward to this.

Muse as usual put on an excellent gig, and remain one of the best live acts around.

Visual Name Display

Found this today that shows you trends in naming babies.  Quite interesting to stick your own name in and see.

The Baby Name Wizard

Snakes on a Plane

Went along to see this on Friday night.  I have to admit not seeing or hearing anything about this.  Michele liked the sound of it, so we went along.

From walking through the cinema and the abnormally amount of teenagers that were in line for food I never noticed that some had rubber snakes round their necks.

Went in and got our seats.  Sat beside a group of boys who were wreaking of booze, one even had a bottle in with him.   We moved along to another seat to escape the drunks.

Movie came on and instantly it was like we were watching a movie in USA, everyone standing up and cheering clapping etc.  When Samuel L Jackson made his appearance on screen, somebody in the audience shouted 'motherfucker' after every sentence he spoke.

About 1/4 way through the movie somebody in our row had one of them foaming snake tubs, when you let it off it foams out a snake.  Well that went off onto some guy in the row in front.  He got up and started to throw punches at them.  At this point I was thinking this is better entrainment that the movie.

Movie went on and I got more and more bored with it.  Was a total cheese fest and now I understand why there was so many teenagers there.

Afterwards I decided to Google this movie and found out that the geek's are loving this.  Would explain why its number 1 at the box office.

If you like brainless movies and constant action and cheesy gags then this will be right up your ally.

Bedroom Wardrobes

Michele and her mum decided over the weekend that they could paint the old black wardrobes which we decided to keep

In my view this was a waste of time and paint as it took 3 coats of the ronseal "does it exactly what it says on the tin" before the black went away.

Next they used some sort of comb thing to run down the cupboards to give it a woodgrain effect.

2 days later this was the final product.

Judge for yourself's......

Kitchen Floor

Saturday and Sunday we decided to start on the kitchen floor.  On Saturday James (Michele's uncle) turned up to plumb in the gas and water, this meant that I could not get started on the floor until this was done....not that I was complaining.

In the afternoon we got the plywood down, this was a job and a 1/2, screwing and drilling into the ground, apparently this was needed so we could stick the tiles onto this.  Few hours later and my hands were in blisters, not use to this manual labour lark!

Sunday we started to tile.  I took the easy option of getting all the tiles down before cutting was involved.  I ended up tiling myself in under units, I could not get out as if I stood on the floor tiles they could have cracked.  I sat here while my dad measured what needed to be cut and listened to the Rangers game.

Tiles are now all down after a quick visit before football on Monday night to stick the rest down, all we require now is for the floor to be grouted and the appliances in.

Barrowlands No more?

Last night I was watching enemy of the state, usual BBC cut into the news at 10 and movie will follow afterwards.

Decided I would have a snooze at this point, woke up mid story about the Barrowlands in Glasgow being demolished and luxury flats being built in its place.

My 1st reaction was god dam what a good venue that place is.  This leaves us with the Carling academy (Very echoy in there) SECC (crap sound) and the ABC (ok venue) along with the smaller clubs i.e. garage, barfly etc for up and coming bands.

Next reaction was why the hell would you want to live in a luxury apartment there anyway, across the road is where all the junkies go to get there meths, so your going to be surrounded by junkies not exactly luxury.

Now I am thinking I was dreaming as I cant find any information on the closure of the Barrowlands.

Here's hoping!

Windows Live Writer

I have seen a lot of news on this writer and thought I would give it a try.

Basically its a little application that sits on computer.  When you fancy blogging something, you fire this up.  I have installed the toolbar for IE7, I do not use IE7 so will be keeping my eyes open for a plugin for firefox.

1st impressions of this program is really good with a layout familiar with many office products its easy to use.  Once you are finished click publish and it post your blog.

Great thing about this app is that it also works with other blogging sites apart from windows live.  Fill in your blog details username and password and it even picks up your colour scheme!

Update on house

Bedroom is now finished, we are having our 1st night in the house tonight due to parents kicking me out of my room (friends staying).

For the kitchen to be finished we are just awaiting gas and water to be connected floor and walls to be tiled, which we can work round until done.

Bathroom - I picked up my shower yesterday, bought from plumbworld. I have to say that their customer services are excellent and will be using them again, they kept me uptodate with my order at all times via email. Even after a delay in my order they kept me in the loop. Hopefully dad is fitting this tomorrow.

This leaves us with the lounge to floor, now I have gave the roof a 2nd coat and need to touch up the coving again before we put the floor down. Our sofa has been sitting in the 2nd bedroom for about 2-3 months now!

Another thing I want to do before we floor is run speaker cable and aerial for a TV in the bedroom. I am also thinking about running Cat5. Best bet will be to go under the floorboards to hide this, really don't fancy the idea of that as I am doubting if I can get under there for starters. Don't seem to have any takers to help me out either!

I have the design of the living room all set out. There was a fake wall beside the fireplace that in my view just had to go. I decided that we could use this for storage, were I could place my DVD's without buying one of them rack things from ikea. We even got down lights for it, so I can see when hunting for a DVD!

Finishing touch to that is buying some nice wood for shelving.

Ibrox debut

1st home game of the season for Rangers new manager Paul Le Guen and I managed to bag a ticket.

Left off from last season with dropping points at home with a 2-2 draw. It always amazes me how fickle football fans are. One minute everyone is cheering, 2-0 down and the abuse begins.

Could see Dundee Untied holding on until an own goal 11 minutes from time. Highlight of the day.

1 Down

Well that's 1 room finished this weekend, the bedroom. My Dad finished the flooring on Friday as he was off work. Saturday we got into the beading and building the bed and bringing the wardrobes back in.

We decided that we would keep the black wardrobes until we can afford new ones.

Things moving along quite fast now. Kitchen units are in, bathroom is 3/4 tiled and awaiting shower which is a few weeks away.

Before and after pictures of the bedroom.
