Googlebot

Googlebot - Can anyone explain to me how this thing works?

Roughly about a month ago I was checking my webstats, I had came across a lot of links from Google image search.  I decided to dive a little deeper....  It turns out that googlebot had indexed my page and when you searched for Die Hard 4 images my website was listed on the 1st page.  I thought ok not a big deal with that.

A few days later I checked my stats to find the site was back to normal hits, hmm odd.  I done a google search for Die Hard 4, nothing showing for my site.  I then done a site:www.philip-harvey.co.uk to see what google had indexed.  Again not showing.

More days pass and noticed a lot of linkage from http://pingugus.awardspace.com/index.php?s=die+hard again I thought ah sod it hotlinking part of the Internet I suppose.  Following my discovery I decided that I would try site:www.philip-harvey.co.uk to see what google had found for my website, to my amazement it had die hard 4 picture yet it linked to pingugus site.  At this point i gave up trying to understand what was happening.

I checked my stats the other day and more hits than normal, site:www.philip-harvey.co.uk shows Die Hard 4, google image search shows Die Hard 4. So in a month we have had nothing, to Die Hard to hot linking back to nothing and then had Die Hard images again.

Does anyone know how the bleeding thing works as its starting to bug me!

/rant over....

Hey sir, you just gotta understand how it all works. And Google does change the ranking otherwise ye'd have old sites still at the top.
And certainly as your name is not unique you have to share the web with all the other Phillip harveys out there just like the rest of us, but two things you can do
1.www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ go here and follow instructions to do things like make a sitemap for google to index.
2. www.google.com/addurl/ and even though your on google it'll allow you to add more information and help their ranking and classification of you.

your the seventh Phillip Harvey in google which isn't bad, but try the above, wait a month and see if it changes. Also the more you link, comment and add your details to other sites such as http://www.dmoz.org/add.html or submit your urls to other search engines, MSN, Yahoo etc the more it'll rise.

Lastly you can edit your template in Blogger and add some "meta data" go to my site: stephenrossscot.com/index.htm, and view source and pinch the "meta" parts at the top, just change to your stuff and that'll help to.

Oh and ditch nedstats and just use "google analytics' you'll find the results of your stats even easier!

Hope this helps

p.s what a fab 'Dugg' icon, I wonder who did that ; )

Not every google server farm is the same. Although they dont disclose the information I have enough experience of searches etc to deduct that if they are unsure about the pagerank of something then one farm runs with it, if it starts taking a lot direct hits it spreads throughout the rest of the farms.

Might be waht you are seeing.

Also the features that are available on your site searches depend of page rank aswell.
